We are going to NYC in November and I was thinking about purchasing a few gift certificates through restaurants.com. I know there are restrictions to using them b/c I use them for local restaurants, but I was wondering if anyone has ever used them for NYC restaurants...
Any suggestions if so?
I was probably going to get a few to use for lunches - maybe a dinner. I know I won%26#39;t be able to use one for Thanksgiving dinner, but thought they may help for a little meal here and there.
Thanks!
Suggestions for restaurants.com?
I see NO restaurants in Manhattan with coupons you can buy on that website. What am I missing?
Suggestions for restaurants.com?
Whiz, it took me a while to find them...I don%26#39;t know if your computer is the same as mine, but when I went to www.restaurants.com I couldn%26#39;t find anything BUT when I typed in restaurants.com (withouth the www) I got a page, and on the right under ';ads by Google'; was a link to, duh, restaurants.com that said something like ';Fine Dining for Less';...but I couldn%26#39;t find any restaurants I liked. And they were not technically coupons, but rather you bought a g.c. at a discounted price ';$25 gift certificate for $15';, etc.
Now I see that the second link is to restaurant.com (no s). It is confusing.
Oops... sorry - it is restaurant.com. :O)
They have Croton Reservoir Tavern - I think that one might be OK. What about Manhattan Diner, Fred%26#39;s Restaurant, or Nonna?
I checked out Alice%26#39;s Tea Cup but the restriction on that gift certificate was that you had to spend a minimum of $100!! Not going to happen at lunch for two adults and a child!
travelmom, just wanted to clear up that I didn%26#39;t mean there was anything wrong with the choices, just that I pretty much know where I want to go so can%26#39;t use any of them on this trip.
You can go to www.menupages.com and read reviews on most NY restaurants.
No problem Warmwinds... :O)
I was just wondering about the restaurants listed. Thanks for menupages.com - I found good reviews on the ones I listed above. I had a 50% off coupon code for restaurant.com so I can get $10 gift certificates for $1.50 for Manhattan Diner, Nonna, and Fred%26#39;s so not much lost if I don%26#39;t end up using them.
My 7-year-old daugther will be going with my mother-in-law and I so kid-friendly places are a plus for us. Of course my daughter thinks she%26#39;s ';Eloise at the Plaza'; and is interested in going to upscale stores and restaurants... lol :O)
So are we talking about restaurant.com? If yes, have gone through SOME of it and a few places I think are worthwhile (but may not be anywhere near where you%26#39;re going) are
AOC (bistro in the village), Acme Bar %26amp; Grill (fun, funky cajun food and burgers in east village) and Blue Mill Tavern (village), Vince %26amp; Eddie%26#39;s (nice American near Lincoln center). On average you%26#39;re saving $15 (buy for $10 and get a $25 coupon).
I%26#39;ve used the certificates in Vegas as well as my hometown. Just pay attention to the restrictions (usually minimum $$ spent). They%26#39;re good for one year. Before buying any, always check www.currentcodes.com to see if there is a discount offered for the certificates.
Thanks shelb... Especially for the web address for current codes. :O)
travelmom, I think your group would like any of the restaurants I mentioned above. Look at reviews on menupages. Only issue is whether they%26#39;ll be near where you%26#39;re going. Acme Bar %26amp; Grill is a funky place with a collection of hot sauce bottle along the wall. Not pricey and good southern food.

Blue Mill Tavern is a fun place with retro decor. In it%26#39;s previous life as Grange Hall, it evidently was featured on S*x and the City. Bettina and Daisiegee and Mr. Daisiegee and I had a meal there last year. It%26#39;s right down a cute block from Chumley%26#39;s, a famous pub.
