hotel oct 11-16

we have some friends who used priceline and had a great deal on a 4 star hotel a couple months ago....can we expect to get a deal or is October ';high season'; in NYC? Anyone familiar with priceline? Is it better to wait till the last minute?

Your best bet is to ask these questions on biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com --both websites specifically designed for helping bid on Priceline. (betterbidding also deals with Hotwire.) From what I know, success on Priceline has to do with occupancy rates as well as length of stay. Oct. is high season so I don%26#39;t think it will be as easy to get a great deal, esp. for a 5 day stay. But once you understand the concept of a free re-bid, you should start bidding! You can try more than once, and the sooner you start, the better you are.

In the meantime, you should book a cancellable reservation someplace in case you don%26#39;t get anything on PL.

PS, do research on the rates being offered for some of the hotels that use Priceline (there are lists of PL hotels by city on both the above websites). You may not get a deal like your friends did, but if you%26#39;d be happy with something less than regular rates being charged, you might have luck. So while your friends may have gotten a 4* hotel for $150/night, if regular prices for your dates are running at $400+, you could get something for $250-300. Would that make you happy?

One last thing...Priceline only guarantees a room with 1 bed for 2 people in NYC . Priceline is not good if you need more than that. You can specify number of people (more than 2) on Hotwire.
