to trip advisorI know the bus tours are popular and it%26#39;s a good way to get a feel for the layout of Manhattan, but really New York is such a walkable city. The best way to see it is by strolling the neighborhoods, not from the top of a tour bus. So my suggestion would be to do one day of bus touring and the rest of the time exploring on your own. You don%26#39;t have to book the bus tour in advance, there are always lots of people on the street selling tickets. Besides, if it rains you%26#39;ll want to be able to switch days.
If you have any interest in seeing a show, you%26#39;ll need to book in advance because many Broadway shows sell out.
to trip advisorIf you decide to do the buses, I would do the downtown route one day, so that you can get off, walk around the Village, Chinatown or Soho (depending on your interests)...
Then do the uptown loop the next day and stop off at a museum or 2, Central Park, or the Harlem market, so that you%26#39;re not just sitting on the bus all day.
You%26#39;ll probably notice neighborhoods on the bus that you want to go back to explore further on day 4 and 5.
But, if you%26#39;re walkers, you can definitely see the highlights by walking or taking regular city buses.
