Central Park Squirrel's

Does anybody else think it%26#39;s wierd how the squirrel%26#39;s in Central Park make eye contact with you ??

I know it%26#39;s not much of a point but it%26#39;s still creepy

Central Park Squirrel's

No, the squirrels in my area of suburban New Jersey do the same.

Central Park Squirrel's

How about this from the September 18 edition of the New York Times - Metropolitian Diary -

Dear Diary:

It was a beautiful Sunday, so I went to sit by the pool in Central Park with my dog, Tonka. We were relaxing and taking in the sun when Tonka suddenly lifted her head and stared a few benches down, where an apparently unremarkable middle-aged man with a large bag had just taken a seat.

Then I saw a large raccoon climbing up the far side of a low fence behind the man (this must have been what Tonka noticed). It got to the top of the fence, reached out, and tapped the man on the shoulder.

The man turned around, said, “Oh, I didn’t see you!” and then found what he was looking for in his bag: a sandwich, which he gave to the raccoon, who took it, climbed back down his side of the fence, held it in his paws, and ate it delicately.

The man looked up to see me staring.

“I didn’t see him,” he said to me, apologetically. “That’s why he had to tap me on the shoulder.”

Just another day in Central Park.

That%26#39;s a great diary entry!

The squirrels here in souther MI also make eye contact. They climb to about eye level in a tree when we walk by with our dog and yell at us. I swear sometimes they even shake a ';fist'; at us while screeching as loudly as possible. Probably we%26#39;re just standing too close to where they just buried an acorn or something. :)

As brilliant as the raccoon story is, why am i not surprised by it

Animals are wonderful creatures!! We have squirrels here at our home who will come up and knock on our bay window when we don%26#39;t put their nuts out as soon as they think we should. We have also had this experience with ';wild'; ducks at our cottage up north--except they are looking for corn and bread crumbs but they will come up and knock on the patio door to get our attention.

I certainly am an animal lover, but I sure hope that they are not the kind of squirrels that D.C. has! I remember them chasing us. I think that people are feeding them (which is not a good thing0 and they expect it from everyone.
