Moving to New York in November...
Here are a few more questions :-)
1. Are real estate agents specialized in particular areas of New York? Especially if it%26#39;s for Park Slope for example...
2. If you plan to rent first, do you have any chance without an agent?
Thanks!
real estate agent in New YorkThe one consistently good thing I can say about real estate brokers is that they know the neighborhoods where they work, especially in Brooklyn.
Here%26#39;s a website with a sampling of real estate brokers in Brooklyn

All my knowledge of them is outdated, so I can%26#39;t make any current recos! Sorry!
By the way, here%26#39;s an interesting Park Slope blog for you:

real estate agent in New YorkReal estate agents specialize very much not merely by borough but by neighborhood.
It is indeed possible to rent without an agent (hey, before I bought my house I did it) but it involves a lot more leg work and careful watching of every kind of ad -- particularly local ones in smaller papers. While I do not know what the practice may be where you are from, also be aware that in NYC, it is the RENTER, and not the landlord, who typically pays the agent%26#39;s fee.
