Hi,
I%26#39;m coming to NYC with a couple pals for a concert at the Mercury Lounge next Thursday. I%26#39;d much appreciate any tips on the cheapest decent place to stay near the club. Cost is important, as e not going to be there for very long -- the show will be over at 1am-ish and we%26#39;re leaving for the airport by 7am.
The hostels nearby get mixed reviews (I%26#39;m willing to go low-budget, but mentions of bug bites scare me off!). St. Mark%26#39;s, Gershwin, and Chelsea seem to get mostly good reviews. Are these good options? Any other suggestions?
The other possibility is staying somewhere closer to LaGuardia -- or at least on the way via subway -- as we%26#39;re leaving so early in the a.m.
Thanks much!

place to stay near Mercury LoungeIn my opinion, you don%26#39;t need to stay near the club, and you certainly don%26#39;t need to stay near LGA.
The subway runs all over NYC, and it is cheap (especially if you get an unlimited MetroCard). I%26#39;d go for a good deal at a good place in Manhattan, and not worry too much about proximity.
It%26#39;s much easier to get around NYC than you probably imagine.
By the way, since this sounds very last minute, have you tried Priceline? Many folks here use www.betterbidding.com to find good deal on Priceline.

Good luck and have fun!

Priceline is only good if they can manage in a room with ONE bed for TWO people. Sounded to me like more than 2 to a room. I agree you don%26#39;t have to stay near the club, but the first 2 places I listed happen to be pretty close and don%26#39;t get bad reviews here.
Union Square Inn would also be ok.

St Marks might be a good option. It%26#39;s a bit of punk rock landmark so the speak right above Trash %26amp; Vaudeville. It%26#39;s also located above a 24 hour Pizza and Bagel place that I practically lived at when I was an East Village resident.
Ideally I would say that if you are going to a concert and leaving early the next morning, you should probably look for something in the East Village. It%26#39;s rather customary to hang out in the neighborhood%26#39;s multitude of bars afterwards. It would be very convenient to be the area, not to mention the other parts of town might not be as lively.
Great suggestions. Thanks much!
