Ok, I have read that asking subway directions can cause a debate for hours among the locals.
How about this question, if I get myself to ';the village';, is it realistic to say that I can pretty much walk to places that I want to go that are located in ';the village'; or is it to big to walk
Thanks

Question for the Locals
My friends from LA think 6 blocks is a long walk.
New Yorkers are first warming up at 20. Bring comfortable shoes. From one end of the village to the other would take a minumum of 30 minutes; and, that%26#39;s without shopping, eating, hanging out.
Start at Bleecker Street and Hudson St/9th Ave (the West Village), and walk to the East Village on 2nd ave and east 9th street. This should keep you busy for a while.
Don%26#39;t forget SOHO, which is just south of the Village (or what we would call the main part of %26#39;the village%26#39;.
Question for the Locals
I%26#39;m not a local but I%26#39;ve walked a fair bit of the village (both east and west) in one day. Plan a route out that starts at a subway stop and ends at a different one - that%26#39;s what we do and then hop on the subway if there%26#39;s a chunk you%26#39;d rather not see to save your legs =)
Well said! Wear comfy shoes and walk everywhere! What kind of walking do you do now? If you go to a gym, test out walking for half a mile and see how long that takes.
BTW, you shouldn%26#39;t avoid asking for subway directions!
(Keep in mind that when we say ';hours'; in NYCspeak , it really means 15 minutes of actual chronological time passed.)
