Has anyone been to and can recommend the transit museum in Brooklyn myself and my husband have both got a particular interest in anything to do with the Subway as we both work for the underground in London. Also is it quite easy to get to from Manhattan

Yes, it is very easy to get there from Manhattan (see above -subway directions are on the website). What I would also do is combine this with a visit to the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights and a walk back into Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge - will make for a great day.
Is it worth it? Yes.

If you are a rapid-transit train buff, you will think it is heaven. It is an actual disused subway station, and they have exhibits in the mezzanine, and lots of different old-style subway cars don on the tracks. There is also a very interesting gift shop at which you can buy old ';pieces'; of the NYC subway (badges, signs, tokens, fixtures, etc.)
