Wicked/Hairspray lotterys

Hi all

Do you know if Wicked and Hairspray still do $25-28 lotteries a few hours before the show for good seats? or was this just when they started out? Which show is better?

Thanks!!

Wicked/Hairspray lotterys

From playbill.com website

Hairspray

Lottery Rush: 25 tickets will be sold for each performance at $25 each for seats in the first row of the orchestra. Each person may enter only one name into the lottery. The individual whose name has been entered must be present to purchase tickets (2 tickets per person; cash only; photo ID required).

SRO: When the show is sold out, a limited number of standing room tickets are available at the box office for $20. Two tickets per person.

Wicked

General Rush: Each day, 2_ hours prior to show time (11:30 AM for 2 PM matinees; 12:30 PM for 3 PM matinees; 4:30 PM for 7 PM performances; 5:30 PM for 8 PM performances), people who present themselves at the Gershwin Theatre box office will have their names placed in a hat. 30 minutes later, names will be drawn for 28 front-row seats at $25 each. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person, cash only. Photo-ID required.

Different people like different shows. ;)

Thanks NYWHIZ!

Anyone else seen either show??!

Everyone%26#39;s tastes are different. What do YOU like in a musical? I loved both of them, so you can%26#39;t go wrong with either choice in my opinion. ';Wicked'; is on a grander scale with darker elements thrown in. ';Hairspray'; is high energy with lots of humor and dance. If you don%26#39;t win either in a lottery, ';Hairspray'; will be easier and cheaper to get than ';Wicked';. By the way, I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;d want to be in the front row for either one. You really need to be farther back to appreciate the dancing in ';Hairspray'; and to get the full effect of ';Defying Gravity'; in ';Wicked';.

You absolutely HAVE to see Wicked. It is simply amazing.

Never saw Hairspray, but I%26#39;m sure that%26#39;s good as well. Broadway is Broadway :)

clanwilson is right--Hairspray will be cheaper whether you get an online discount or through the lottery. My lottery seats in 2004 were last row of the theatre; apparently it%26#39;s changed to front row.

As for Wicked...ahem...have tried the lottery 14 times to no avail, but a friend and I are coming down this weekend and I just checked for the hell of it and voila...two aisle orchestra seats for tomorrow%26#39;s matinee!!!

I saw both shows and liked Wicked better but as has been said,it is a matter of your preference. I tried the Wicked lottery three times this summer and won once-I had seen the show but was having out of town guests who were interested and it was sold out. I was happy to pay only $25 for each ticket but the front row of the orchestra is too close for maximum enjoyment of this show.

After seeing Wicked this weekend, I can definitely say I prefer Hairspray. I think this was a victim of expectations--while the performances of Eden Espinoza and Megan Sikora (Glinda understudy) were awesome, I thought it all moved rather slowly.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I am a dancer myself and love musicals. Like them to be upbeat with a bit of excitment.

I think it sounds like we will enjoy both. Suppose we could try lottery for both (we are in NYC for a week) and if no luck buy some tickets for one of them near the end of our stay.

Thanks guys!! As always a great help!!
