Hello- I will be visiting November 22nd thru the 27th. Starting to work on my itinerary GULP... was looking for some input on how things are looking so far.
Wednesday : check in at the Barclay at noon-ish and check out Central Park, go to Top of the Rock and go to the Macy%26#39;s Balloon blow up.
Thursday: up at 6ish and off to the parade! Check out Rockefeller Center, find somewhere to watch some football and dinner at Arties Deli (the husband wanted a meal that was really laid back on this day)
Friday: Ground Zero and China Town. Dinner at Foleys Fish House, Broadway show ';Wicked';
Saturday: back to Central park, check out the Met, St. Patricks, Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, not a clue for dinner.. anything neat by Brooklyn Bridge?
Sunday: ??
Please let me know If I am planning things in the areas that I am not planning on thing on side of NY and another thing on another side.. Anything that you can not believe that I am missing? Also my husband really loves his pubs any close by to the attractions that I have listed that are great? Thank you in advance for any thoughts!
What I have so far...
Some thoughts:
There is a little bit of unnecessary doubling back here and there. For example, TOTR is in Rockefeller Center, but you have them on different days, and St. Pat%26#39;s is on a third day even though it is directly across the street.
There is lots to eat in downtown Brooklyn that can be combined with a walk across the Bridge. The pricey River Cafe you probably know about, but across the street from it is the much less expensive (although not cheap) but rather good Pete%26#39;s downtown, and around the corner -- with a decent view of Manhattan -- is Bubby%26#39;s Brooklyn branch. You could also eat on Motague Street, where there are lots of choices (Turkish? Polish? Greek? Pub? Japanese? etc., etc.) and then head to the wonderful Promenade before hitting hte Bridge.
Also nearby, on Court Street, is one of the best white-tablecloth old-style Italian restaurants in NYC: it%26#39;s name is ';Queen:.
What I have so far...
First off I just stayed at the Barclay a couple of weeks ago and thought it was a great hotel.
I think you have too much on Saturday and you might want to consider moving the Met to Sunday. We go on Sundays and it can get crowded but it is going to be crowded on Saturday.
St. Patrick%26#39;s is close by your hotel so you might wander in there at any point and you might want to think about doing the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn and the area around the WTC site on Saturday. People on this forum always suggest taking the subway to Brooklyn and walking over to Manhattan for the skyline.
As for pubs there is a Connolly%26#39;s on 47th, one block down and over by your hotel. I have stayed in this area at least 4 times and I just found it this last trip. Also there are more pubs over on 3rd and 2nd avenues, but some of them tend to attract a younger crowd.
There is a current post right now titled ';walking the Brooklyn Bridge'; and GWB outlines what you need to know and also includes a link concerning the bridge.
Have you your Wicked tickets yet? If not, better hurry. You can find some at broadwaybox.com/shows/wicked_nyc_tickets.aspx Enjoy!
