Hi
Looking for recommendations in or around GV for a decent steak. It doesn%26#39;t have to be sent from heaven - we aren%26#39;t experts by any means (coming from the UK!), just a good old decent, succulent and tasty NY strip or porterhouse ... whatever.
We have reserved the River Cafe for lunch and One if by Land for dinner. Also seriously thinking about the Place on West 10th - anyone been there, any thoughts? Also Giorgio%26#39;s of Gramercy or Babbo or Metrazur- we%26#39;re in NY for five days and want to eat a %26#39;nice%26#39; meal once a day - don%26#39;t mind filling in with hotdogs etc. but at least once a day to sit down someplace nice and eat good food.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Lynne

There are three places in the general vicinity...make that four if you count one you wouldn%26#39;t expect ...
1. Strip House, traditional steak with an intriguing sensual red bordello atmosphere...It may be more atmospheric than you want.
2. STK, a new steakhouse, aimed at women rather than clubby old school guys steak place. May be a little trendy for you... don%26#39;t know...
3. Knickerbocker, a neighborhood place, excellent steak, reasonable prices... may be what you had in mind??
4. The longshot-- Balthazar (actually in SoHo). Yes, it is French. Very French. But they have two steak options to consider-- Steak Frites which is steak and fries (see my pix in the photo album below entitled Spamalot-River Cafe) but they also serve an AMAZING cote du boeuf for two, a delicious rib steak with onion rings and veggies and it is really really good, and at its price point something of a bargain.
Check out the menues for all of these places on menupages.com,
If you want Balthazar or Babbo reservations are absolutely necessary.

Metrazur has a high ';wow'; quotient. The food is good, but the star of the show is dining in the middle of Grand Central%26#39;s main hall. Eye-popping.
I love Giorgio%26#39;s for its attentive service, great food and great wine. It%26#39;s off the beaten path and dimly lit. Don%26#39;t need much more than that!
The Place will give you a great taste of being in the heart of Greenwich Village. You%26#39;ll be on a small, cobblestone street, among the brownstone buildilngs, carriage houses and maybe some old-fashioned gaslights. Good food. Some say ';slow service';, but to me, I think they want to leave people alone and not rush them. Feel like a bohemian. Write some poetry.
Those are my experiences.
Giorgios of Gramercy, just off Broadway/Fifth Ave in the Flat Iron district, is one of those great, undiscovered restaurants. Even the Zagat guide likes them. I%26#39;ve had dinner here many times over the years. It%26#39;s small and intimate, with delicious food and a reasonably priced wine list.
Giorgios is slightly less expensive than other restaurants of the same caliber. FYI, they%26#39;re not know for their steak.
I also like Strip House as mentioned above. It has more atmosphere than Sparks Steakhouse, which is big and boisterous.
Dan
