NYC in December

Interested in going to NYC for a weekend in December.

Where is a good place to stay that isn%26#39;t wickedly expensive??

What about nightlife? Would love to hit some of the hot spots as well as the hole in the wall types of places. Love live jazz, comedy... pretty much up for anything that%26#39;s fun! We will only be able to stay 2 nights so we want to pack as much fun in as possible. Please help with suggestions!

Thanks,

These questions are broad and with so many possible answers. As a general rule, the most expensive hotels will be in the midtown area. To me, staying at a mid town hotel is somewhat overrated.

Also, many people who like jazz and night life will highly enjoy Greenwhich Village, another general rule of thumb for this city.

My personal favorite budget hotel in the New York is the Larchmont Hotel in Greenwich Village. Killer location. Although the rooms may be small, it is an authentic New York sleeping experience and it is in a very nice residential area. In my opinion, this is the best budget hotel in New York, mostly because of the location. I%26#39;ve stayed there twice.

I also highly recommend that you get the Frommer%26#39;s Guide to New York, which can be purchased at any quality book store in the U.S. It may be available outside the U.S. too (for all you foreigners lurking on this thread). To me, it is the best guide book to New York and well worth it, even if you only visit New York just once in your life for 1 day. It%26#39;s also an interesting read too. Don%26#39;t be cheap or lazy, buy a good guide book! Or at least borrow one from your library.

Also, in my opinion, getting a few pointers from a message board like this is decent but you really need a good guide book if you want to make the most out of your trip. This way, you will know more options of things to do and see, especially if certain plans fail....and anything can happen in a big city.

You may want to consider a Broadway show. Big entrainment, and it ends early enough for you to hit other nightlife places. Try www.broadwaybox.com for great discounts on shows and theater tickets, as well as listings and reviews and other big apple activities.

How difficult would it be for a non-famous person to get into one of the trendy clubs??? Just wondering...I wouldn%26#39;t mind checking out that Bungalow place... I%26#39;m not into standing in lines hoping they%26#39;ll pick me to go into their club though. Not for me but I love to party and dance...any suggestions?
