I have used the search function, and I see approx $40 being quoted for a taxi fare from Newark to Chelsea - is this about right? Is there anything I need to be aware of when using taxis?
We are both fit and able so are more than happy to use other public transport, but we%26#39;ve never been to NYC before and I%26#39;m a bit wary about having to transfer 2 or 3 times because we%26#39;re not staying in/around Times Square.
Thanks!
Newark to ChelseaIt will be $40-50 plus toll and tip whether you use a taxi or a car service which is another option.

If you use a taxi, just make sure you use a cab from the official taxi line. Do NOT accept a ride from anyone who may approach you.
If you want to spend less (b/c the taxi will wind up being closer to $60 all in) you can use a shared van service like Air Link for $17/person (but you%26#39;ll have to drop others off so it will take longer) OR, you can use the Airport Express bus to Penn Station (34 st.) Chelsea is not far from there. ($13/person one way or $22 roundtrip) You can get a taxi from there.

Newark to ChelseaYou%26#39;ll only have to change trains once to get from Newark by mass transit (not counting the monorail that gets you to the train). You take the monorail (Airtrain) to the Newark Airport train station and connect with the next available train into Penn Station NYC. $14 per person.
From Penn Station, you can take the E or 1 subway downtown to 23rd Street (one stop on the E, 2 stops on the 1). If you%26#39;re staying nearer to 18th, take the 1 to 18th instead. The E goes down 8th Ave, the 1 goes down 7th - so choose the one closer to your hotel.
Going into the subway (and onto the street) will be the only time you have to carry bags up/down steps.
Thanks for the replies. I will print this out and see how the budget is in a few weeks time :o)
