Were to go after viewing the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island

A bit confused, should we do the whole tour thing and see the above, or just do a harbour cruise and view it from a distance? Or is it up to the individual? And if we do the whole tour, I can safely assume by reading all the info that we are best getting there first thing in the morning and prebooking our tickets. THough can anyone tell me were we could go after this maybe for a nice lunch or to do a bit of shopping as time is of the essence but we do have two older people in our group (don%26#39;t tell them :) !) so don%26#39;t want to drag them around too far.

It is indeed personal preference. Many people feel the stop at Ellis Island is very worthwhile, esp. if you have family that came through there.

Equally, many people feel that stopping at the Statue of Liberty is NOT worth the time since you can%26#39;t really go very high anyway. You can take the ferry and not get out at SOL and just stay on to go to Ellis Island. That said, I%26#39;ve been impressed by some of the photos folks have posted of bits from the museum inside the statue like the original torch

I haven%26#39;t been since I was a kid and would like to go back. ;)

If you do want to see the Statue up close, it%26#39;s best to book a tour in advance so at least you do get to go inside. Otherwise, without the reservation, you just walk around Liberty Island where the statue stands.

B/c of heavy security, many people just can%26#39;t be bothered and will see the statue:

%26gt;for free on the Staten Island Ferry

%26gt;On a Circle Line Cruise (several different options all of which will go past the statue)

%26gt;On some sort of lunch/brunch/dinner cruise

If you do both the Statue and Ellis Island, it generally takes 5-6 hrs. so you%26#39;ll probably get hungry while you%26#39;re there. There%26#39;s limited eating options on the islands, but there are snack bars. People can bring their own food too.

Doing both requires a fair amount of standing in line. Maybe the older folks might not want to do this?
