Could someone tell me exactly where to go to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge? We tried to do it last time but never found the place where you actually get on it before we ran out of time. We are pretty good with the subway system so if you could start with which stop to get off at coming from midtown, I would be very thankful.

Both the subway station to use and the location of the walkway entrance to tell you depends on which direction you want to walk: towards Brooklyn, or towards Manhattan.
Walking from Brooklyn to Manhattan has better views.
There are two entrances on the Brooklyn side: one at teh intersection of Tillary Street and Adams Street (adjacent to the US Courthouse), and one via a stairway in the stone wall of the bridge structure on Cadman Plaza West (Washington Street), near Prospect Street.
On the Manhattan side, the entrance faces City Hall Park between Chambers and Frankfort Streets -- that is, between the Municipal Building on Centre Street and Pace University on Park Row.

I hope it comes as no surprise to learn that the closest subway station on the Manhattan side is... ';Brooklyn Bridge';!

Greenwhiteblue has it exactly right and I would also recommend walking from Brooklyn to Manhattan for the views. It%26#39;s a great walking bridge. After the walk, I would recommend grabbing a bite to eat in nearby chinatown or perhaps the South Street Seaport.
I agree with Travel4three, we walked the Brooklyn bridge last week and it wasn%26#39;t until we%26#39;d got halfway across that we came to the conclusion that we should have walked back from Brooklyn. We were constantly stopping to take in the view and take pictures.
Thank you so much! Now I remember the Brooklyn Bridge subway stop... We plan to walk across AND back. I have heard there is good ice cream on the Brooklyn side. Anyone familiar with the ice cream place? Is it easy to find?
I%26#39;m very familiar with it (they have the best chocolate in town - in my opinion). it is called the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and it is right under the bridge at Fulton Ferry Landing (on the water - next to River Cafe).
Get off the bridge at the first exit on your left (you%26#39;ll see subway signs) and take a left at the bottom of the stairs. Then take your first left. At Old Fulton St take a right and walk down the hill. You%26#39;ll see the white building at the end of the street. it should take you about 10 minutes from the bridge to ice cream (assuming that there is no line).
