Why, all over NY can we see smoke coming from undeground ?



From Trains%26#39;? Sewage?

The smoke comes from steam pipes underground. The steam is used for heating apartments and for hot water.




I had a physics teacher in high school who joked: ';Class, we%26#39;re running behind schedule in the curriculum. See all that steam coming out of the ground? That%26#39;s thermodynamics. Next chapter.';




Saw on TV that the steam pipes get to 1000 degrees (F) and that the smoke you see is usually ground water hitting the pipes.
