.... watched the worst chick flick I%26#39;ve ever had the misfortune to see.
Although I thought some of you girlies might be able to stomach it because its set in Brooklyn (Heights?) and has got some fab shots of Manhattan and (mainly) Brooklyn.
Oh and the presence of the rather delicious Chris Noth doesn%26#39;t hurt either...
I have just .....
Well, they are all good points. What%26#39;s the title?
I have just .....
what%26#39;s the name of the movie/
have you ever seen ';Moonstruck';? it%26#39;s a favorite of mine (I was born in Brooklyn,so have a soft spot..)
Doh! Yes the title was %26#39;The Perfect Man%26#39;
But I thought I would order a chick-flick since Andy isn%26#39;t here and thought it sounded corny enough to warrant the extra 拢20 a month for Sky until I get around to watching all of the movies three times and cancelling again!
I%26#39;m not a big fan of Moonstruck (although I love the shots), its weird but I think my favourite NY flick is either North by Northwest (gotta love Cary Grant) or that kids one where the animals escape from CP zoo......
Rubbish films but some of my favourite shots of NY.
The worst NY movie (at least for a history buff likee me) is the dreadful and foolish ';Gangs of New York';.
What annoys me about Moonstruck is that they are clearly talking about South Brooklyn (as in Carroll Gardens) Italians, but they set it scenically in Brooklyn Heights.
Does anyone think a plumber would live in that house on Cranberry Street, and have a backyard full of junk? And what%26#39;s with that graveyard on the Promenade? The real thing buried there is the Brooklyn Queens Expressway -- if anyone tried to have a grave there, the coffin would have to be dropped onto a passing tractor trailer...
I watched Gangs of NY and didn%26#39;t have a clue about how historically in-accurate it was, until I read the book. That is soooooo interesting. And probably the only book I%26#39;ve ever read that covers so much of NY over such a long time. I thought it was brilliant.
Looking back on the movie though GWB, I see your point! Judging from the film, it was based on pages 134-135 and the directors just made the rest up.
i have to agree ,greenwhiteblue! i just get nostalgic, and i like the lines Gardenia has throughout movie(whenever my daughter wears a fancy dress,we all comment how it%26#39;s ';very bright';,that kinda thing..)
I also did not enjoy Gangs...read the 5 Points book(my ancestors from Co.Cork, and Italy..came in thru Castle Garden?and Ellis Island) so was intrigued, but big disappointment...
I%26#39;m a huge fan of Martin Scorsese%26#39;s, but found Gangs of NY unwatchable. Also, though I can%26#39;t recall exactly what the line was, I remember being annoyed that he%26#39;d made a geographical error. Could it have been that he moved City Hall north of Five Points? Anyway, it was something Scorsese should have caught immediately since he grew up near there, as I did.
I loved Moonstruck. I think of Olympia Dukakis%26#39; character every time I heave a deep sigh; she%26#39;s the best sigher, ever!
I love Moonstruck - I have seen it many, many times...I love Cher anyway, but I also love the storyline, and the song ';That%26#39;s Amore'; by Dean Martin, it%26#39;s a real ';feel good'; song, and I can%26#39;t help but smile every time I hear it :-) It was also the film I was watching when I first spoke to the man who is now my boyfriend, on the phone, for the first time (he lived in London, me, in Manchester)...so it holds very special memories for me :-)
I also love Moonstruck - what a great ensemble cast. We visited friends in Brooklyn the day after we saw it and they took us to the promenade and past the bakery. I especially loved the old grandfather - his best line...';I%26#39;m confused';.
i love the old gr%26#39;father! when he%26#39;s in the cemetery/churchyard ,with the other old men ,in their earflap hats...
but it%26#39;s fun to watch ,once you%26#39;ve left the city,to ';revisit'; the Met,Bergdorfs%26#39;,Brooklyn..sigh...(love when olympia is awakened and asks who died)... it just makes me nostalgic.
