Carnegie Deli vs. Katz's

On our last trip, we went to Carnegie Deli and had the ';Woody Allen'; and a slice of cheesecake and it was honestly one of the most satisfying meals I%26#39;ve ever had in my life. I hear Katz%26#39;s is loved by many people....can you all post some thoughts on which one you like better and why?

Thanks!

Carnegie Deli vs. Katz's

I go for the pastrami, which is excellent at both. The difference is that Katz%26#39;s hand slices their deli meat, so it%26#39;s thick. The Carnegie slices by machine, so the meat is thin. I wouldn%26#39;t pass up either one, but I much prefer the Carnegie.

Carnegie Deli vs. Katz's

As Bettina noted Katz%26#39;s hand slices its pastrami resulting in a very nice sandwich.

But unless you want pastrami, the quality of the rest of Katz%26#39;s menu is very disappointing. I call Katz%26#39;s a one-trick pony because of the pastrami. It%26#39;s a great trick, but it%26#39;s one nonetheless.

If you are with a group and everyone wants a hot pastrami sandwich...then Katz%26#39;s is the place to go... But if other people want other sandwiches like corned beef, turkey, etc.... I wouldn%26#39;t bother with Katz%26#39;s.

Whatever you do, don%26#39;t get the turkey at the Carnegie... it%26#39;s so dry it%26#39;ll instantly suck all the moisture out of your body!

Oh, I would never get the turkey there. I would 100% get the ';Woody Allen'; again....it would be really really hard to have a better deli experience than the one I had a few months ago at Carnegie. $3 for sharing is nothing when considering how big the sandwiches are.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn%26#39;t missing out on a better deli than Carnegie if there is one. Sounds like Katz%26#39;s has nothing good except pastrami.

Katz for the pastrami, it is the best, brisket is pretty good too, I%26#39;ve had a cheese steak there, also good. But the pastrami is to die for. And you can sit in the seat where Sally fakes an ';O'; in ';When harry met sally'; Plus it%26#39;s near economy candy.

Al, did you really get a cheese steak at Katz%26#39;s? I can%26#39;t believe it! I guess it%26#39;s better than going there for a tuna sandwich.

By the way, Katz%26#39;s was featured in ';When Harry Met Sally'; and Woody Allen%26#39;s ';Broadway Danny Rose'; was set in the Carnegie.

Been to Katz%26#39;s once, way downtown, not convenient as Carnegie.

Loved Katz/%26#39;s pastrami but also prefer the thin sliced meets at Carnegie.

I would eat at either one, just depends what part of town I%26#39;m in when hunger calls.

Poppa

All 16 of our teenagers (a choir group - not mine personally - heart failure at the thought) LOVED the Caregie deli - they kept sneaking back over there for cheesecake. The pastrami was wonderful, shared a sandwich with my son, since the husband was hoarding his entire sandwich. The bowl of pickles is great too. And I liked the rye bread, soft - but held the sandwich together nicely. And you can%26#39;t beat the fast service and the ';senior'; waitresses with the painted on eyebrows. Wonderful!

Bettina - our one teen who had the turkey (the picky eater girl) had a pinched face expression the rest of the trip. I thought it was just 16yr old teen angst, but maybe that turkey really did suck out all the moisture.....hmmm.....

FSM, very funny! That wasn%26#39;t Imelda, was it?

When is Carnegie the busiest? Day or night? I want to go when it%26#39;s slow. We went on a Friday around 11am last time and it was perfect. How is it at night?
