cheap flights to NY?

We would like to go to NY fro about 2 weeks but I am checking the prices for flights - not that great - we are very flexible with the dates as we are just starting to plan so can go any time of the year.

Any ideas of when the flights would be cheaper? We would like to go from Manchester if possible but if it%26#39;s any better from London then we are prepared to go that way. (Ideally we would like to do some shopping there as well so sales would be nice)

BA is offering $169 each way right now between London and NYC. I%26#39;m not sure if they have the same special to manchester - but it might be worth a cheap flight to London and then switch to BA.

Prices from Manchester don%26#39;t seem to be as good as London. I guess there%26#39;s less competition. Similar question a while ago with some info
