Are places open on 1st Jan?

I%26#39;m travelling to New York on 27th Dec to 5th Jan, with my three teenage daughters and was just wondering will any shops or tourist sights such as TOTR be open on 1st Jan? If not can you suggest any interesting things to do that day?

Pretty much everything is open New Years Day, including TOTR.
