Would like to stay in or near Woodstock on way to Long Island. The intown options seem to get mixed reviews so wonder if best to stay in something off 87 and just drive in to town for evening. Suggestions re clean affordable in this area appreciated.

Try Twin Gables (www.twingableswoodstockny.com) which is right in town and you can walk to restaurants, shops, etc. Very reasonably priced, too. There%26#39;s also the Woodstock Inn (www.woodstock-inn-ny.com) which isn%26#39;t as charming as Twin Gables--more of a vintage motel, but at a very pretty location next to a brook, and still within walking distance of town. It has gotten mixed reviews, but I think some people are looking for amenities outside the price range of this nice little place.

Have booked at the Woodstock Inn by Millstream and found person taking booking very helpful and we discussed uneven reviews here which seemed to reflect personality conflicts rather than the lodging itself. Regular manager was away that week. Said if I had positive experience would post here. Think you are right about affordability factor - we%26#39;re just looking for clean digs and don%26#39;t care about the frills. A bit of research shows most of the higher rated places in area are considerably more expensive.
Could never reach a live body and calls weren%26#39;t returned by Village Green B and B. Wonder if anyone has thoughts vis-a-vis Twin Gables vs the Woodstock Inn by Millstream?
Really enjoyed overnight stay at Woodstock Inn on the Millstream. Rooms clean, quiet and beautiful setting on the Millstream. Yes a bit dated and washroom a little small but price was right too and staff very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed the continental breakfast which had juice, fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, smoked salmon, cream cheese, bagels, etc. and very good coffee. If weather is nice pleasant to sit outside on edge of millstream. Woodstock seemed like an interesting town to explore - would have liked more time and hope to return one day to do that and would stay here again.
