Jersey Garden Outlet Mall to Manhattan midtown

Interview on 24/10/2006 2 pm Midtown Manhattan,Need to find a place to stay.Flying in from Toronto to Newark.Thought of staying in Newark for $50/night seemingly achievable on Priceline.com

I found that there is a bus 115 New Jersey Bus from the Jersey Garden mall starting at 10.31 am to Port Authority ,NYC arriving at 11.11 am.

Is this bus reliable and safe at that time, would traffic at this time be a problem, or should I take the train from Newark International Airport(airport hotel provides free shuttle to mall and airport.

Booked return flight from LGA at 8.30 pm hopefully everything will be settled then and can catch a taxi back to LaGuardia by 6 pm!

If you%26#39;re staying in *downtown* Newark, the easiest way (with no traffic congestion concerns) would be to take a NJ Transit train from Newark into Manhattan%26#39;s Penn Station for $3.75/adult, $1.25/child.

It is more expensive to take the train(s) from EWR than the bus from the Jersey Gardens Mall, and the bus is certainly safe -- traffic problems are, however, unpredictable. F

Frankly, I%26#39;d be more concerned about the frequency/reliability of an unknown (as a Priceline property necessarily is) hotel%26#39;s shuttle service to either the mall or airport when time is a heavy consideration. How about spending the night at the Country Inn %26amp; Suites Newark Airport? It%26#39;s right across the road from the Jersey Gardens Mall, is a well-maintained property and a place I%26#39;d be very comfortable taking my child to (as I recall, your child is accompanying you on this trip); it%26#39;s less expensive on weekends, but I predict you could find a room there for Monday, the 23rd, for about $125.

In the alternative, I%26#39;d rather see you bid on a decent Jersey City hotel than on Priceline%26#39;s EWR properties. A PATH train would whisk you into Manhattan, again without having to rely on a shuttle service or bus.

I wouldn%26#39;t stay in Newark or near Jersey Gardens. For a 1 night stay, bid 4*on Priceline for Manhattan (you can sometimes get one for $120-150 ) OR bid on Priceline for 3* Jersey City. The 2 hotels in Jersey City (Hyatt or Doubletree) are regularly won for $100/night or less. From there, there%26#39;s a PATH train (like a subway) to Manhattan.

Also keep in mind if you stay in Jersey, you%26#39;ll have to be dragging around your luggage all day in Manhattan and take it to the interview. Much easier if you stay in Manhattan.

Thank you ,NYwhiz.

I%26#39;ve chosen Newark as the point of entry because I know and I have booked a back-up hotel direct with the ichotelgroup at Newark airport for $100/night.(in case everything else fails later)

I bid several times,MTE,MTS,MTW with no luck for $125.Will try later since I already have a back-up hotel.I am locked out of Newark and NYC now till tonight by Priceline.

Thanks,CocleCove, the Country Inn and Suite by Carlsen is exactly the hotel (across from JerseyGarden mall) I am thinking of staying on the 23rd.Recently it has been won by people according to Betterbidding.com for 45-50$US per night.

I am still waiting to hear from the interview place to see whether they have any special negotiated rate for local hotels at Murray Hills?before committing.

Thanks again to you both.BTW.regarding exit strategy from midtown to Laguardia to return to Toronto,if there is a traffic jam, should I take a subway train to at least city perimeter before taking a taxi.I know that you can take a subway and then a bus to LaGuardia but I can also take a subway and then hail a taxi if that is convenient to do so.

If you%26#39;re ';locked out of newark and Manhattan'; what about Jersey City?

LGA is very close to Manhattan and usually only takes 40 mins. if no bad traffic. If you%26#39;re going to take a taxi (a car service might be better if you know where you%26#39;ll be. You can order ahead and have a fixed price).

Your other option is the Express Airport bus from grand central www.nyairportservice.com/manhattan_lga.html

Easier than dealing with subway/bus.

I should add you could indeed get in a subway out to Queens and then try to hail a cab. Problem is I don%26#39;t know whether you%26#39;d find a yellow cab just cruising there. Have not done this. Also don%26#39;t know which train to tell you to take since we don%26#39;t know where you%26#39;ll be starting from. Here%26#39;s the subway map which shows LGA. It%26#39;s closest to the 7 train, but I don%26#39;t know how lucky you%26#39;d be finding a taxi cruising in Flushing. Don%26#39;t chance it.

Thanks,NYwhiz,

seems like I can take the subway at 34Th/Herald Sq ,the N and the W lines and transfer for the M60 bus at Astoria Blvd at Queens for the LaGuardia airport.

This is a backup plan in case I cant book a taxi or hail a taxi etc.

I %26#39;ve checked into Carmello and limo.net as you suggested. It seems the latter one offers a $5 online booking discount. Are they reliable????(after discount from Madison/E34 to LGA 28$)

Carmello%26#39;s site has a bug in it,I cant enter my street address.

I don%26#39;t know where you%26#39;ll be for the interview. You mentioned Murray Hill which is the east side. If you%26#39;re on the east side, it would be easier to take the Lexington Ave. line (4,5,6) up to 59 st (Bloomingdales) and get the N or W there. But honestly, the subway/bus thing to La Guardia is really not worth the trouble imo. If you don%26#39;t want to spring for a taxi and are on the east side, the Express Airport bus from ';Grand Central'; is really easy. Get the bus at 125 Park Avenue Between 41st. %26amp; 42nd Street. You get on, it%26#39;s ~ $12 and the next stop is LGA.

Carmel is pretty reliable. They also have a discount coupon on their website (maybe that%26#39;s what you meant?) The cars are driver owned so some are nicer than others. Limores.net tends to have nicer cars.
