I%26#39;m hoping to see the new Dylan based musical when I visit in March next year, but am not sure when to get tickets. The show is in preview now ( whatever that means) and opens later this month.
Can any of you broadway experts out there advise a novice when the best time to buy tickets is?
Tickets seem to be available online now for when I%26#39;m over - but I%26#39;m unsure whether I should to book now Presumably if the show is a smash hit then tickets will be hard to come by and it makes sense to book now. But if it isn%26#39;t and closes before March, would I get my money back?
Also there only seem to be the ';best '; seats availble now - presumably other parts of the theatre will be sold later depending on demand. Is it worth waiting to see if cheaper seats are released?
Grateful for any advice. Thanks
Broadway advice - new tywla tharp/dylan musicalCheck out broadwaybox.com/shows/the_times_they_are_a-c鈥?/a> for discount tickets for the show. You can also sunscribe to there to a free newsletter, and get the discounts details every time they change. Usually, if a show sells tickets to a certain date, it will go on that day (you know - the show must go on etc.). If not, you%26#39;ll get your money back.
Broadway advice - new tywla tharp/dylan musicalYears ago Broadway shows would ';preview'; out of town to work out the kinks and get an idea of how it is received. New Haven CT was often one of the last stops so if a show was bad you would often hear ';it bombed in New Haven';.
Nowadays, with productions more elaborate and sets with a lot of special effects (and prehaps just because they can) shows often ';preview'; in NYC but the critics usually don%26#39;t talk about them until ';Opening Night';. Basically this means that if you see a preview you are not seeing the finished product and there may be some changes made and some kinks to work out.
Really, there are tickets available for March?
This show has not opened yet. I saw it, it is not good, I have a feeling it won%26#39;t be around for a long time, if they don%26#39;t retool it.
Hopefully I am wrong, but who knows!!!!
Our family also saw the Dylan show when it was playing in San diego. I think it only time I should have just walked out. They may have made changes.......but it wouldn%26#39;t my list.
Tyanks to everyone for the advice and info. It doesn%26#39;t sound as if it%26#39;s very good - sounds like I might be better waiting a bit.
I%26#39;m a huge Dylan fan, so it seemed like too good an opportunity to miss - but I%26#39;m not a fan of dance. Does that mean I%26#39;m likely to be more or less tolerant of the show?
It%26#39;s pity His Bobness isn%26#39;t performing in NYC while I%26#39;m over.
Or that it%26#39;s not 1962 :-)
If you are a Dylan fan, you may not like the orchestration of some of his songs or that fact that the singing style is Broadway, not Bob%26#39;s mumbling. However, if that doesn%26#39;t bother you, the show is basically non-stop Dylan songs.
Having seen it, if you don%26#39;t like dance, and you are a big Dylan fan, I think you will be greatly disappointed.
I saw Dylan on tour with Paul Simon several years ago and if you thought he mumbled back in the 60%26#39;s (which was good) he was unintelligible then. It was not a Garden Party syndrome since he sang a lot of his old stuff, but it was almost at the end of Mr. Tambourine Man before I had any clue what song it was. Just awful.
Anyway, you will miss this, but for any other fans reading this thread there is a Dylan exhibit at the Morgan Library from around October to January. It seems it must be pretty popular because a few weeks ago when I found it it was just ';there'; and now they have posted that they give you timed tickets on a FCFS basis, but it doesn%26#39;t seem like there is any extra charge above the regular admission.
