movies, I always see those bridges and weeping willows.
What is the most beautiful part of Central Park. On r/o
If you want to see ';the'; bridge, ask for Bow Bridge.
Three popular beautiful spots:
Bethesda Fountain
The dead center of Sheep Meadow
The Ramble

Totally agree with QB here.
Bow Bridge - This is just northwest of Bethesda Terrace, which is at about 72nd Street in Midpark. So, Bow Bridge is at about 74th Street in midpark. This is one of the most beautiful cast iron bridges in the world.
Bethesda Terrace is at 72nd Street in mid-park. There is currently some renovation going on above the Terrace, but the Fountain area itself is pristine. The statue above the fountain is called ';Angel of the Waters'; and commemorates the opening of the Croton Aqueduct, which brough fresh water to the City after decades of disease. It is also the first major comissioned work of a female sculptor, Emma Stebbins.
Sheep Meadow - Between 66th and 70th Street on the West Side. This area got it%26#39;s name from it%26#39;s previous role as a grazing area for sheep. Prior to that, it was an area for military diplays, but those fell out of favor during the World Wars. In the 70%26#39;s and 80%26#39;s it was essentially a dustbowl, and used for protests, etc. It%26#39;s now a gorgeous expanse of green lawn.
The Ramble - Certainly one of the most picturesque areas of the Park. Located just north of the Lake, and south of Belvedere Castle, the Ramble was designed by Olmsted and Vaux as an area where city folk could literally get lost in the Park. That vision rings true today...the Ramble is comprised of many winding trails which lead even the most seasoned New Yorker into oblivion. It is well worth a visit though, as it is one of the areas in which one can truly feel like one has left NYC for the wilds of the forest. My advice would be to enter at Bow Bridge, and head dead North, which will bring one to Belvedere Castle (eventually).
Other areas to explore (check out a good map of Central Park prior)
- The Conservatory Water
- Belvedere Castle
- Harlem Meer
- Strawberry Fields
Have fun!
Thank you sooo much for your advice!
Can you tell me what the approximate distance between the farthest place that you mentioned to another, (Ex. The Ramble and Bethesda Fountain?)
Also, what is your opinion on having brunch at the Loeb Boathouse?
How close is this to the mentioned places?
One last question, (Sorry for all of the ?%26#39;s.) Are there vendors throughout the park who sell food? Thanks again!
Wait! I thought of one more question....(sorry.) Should we just take a taxi to one of these areas from St. Pat%26#39;s or the Subway?
Thanks! : )
Actually, Bethesda Terrace, Bow Bridge, and the Ramble are right next to each other. From the Terrace and Fountain, head Northwest, which will have you at Bow Bridge in just a couple of minutes. Cross Bow Bridge and you%26#39;re in the Ramble.
Sheep Meadow is a 5-10 minute walk Southwest of Bethesda Terrace.
The Boathouse is excellent for brunch. Fantastic views, great setting.
Yes, there are vendors selling beverages, hot dogs, pretzels, ice cream, etc. throughout the Park. There are also several casual eateries serving similar fare. If you are going to Sheep Meadow, there is a place called the Sheep Meadow Cafe at the north end of the Meadow.
You can certainly take a cab from St. Pat%26#39;s, (have them take you to 72nd and Central Park West, or 72nd and Fifth Avenue - the areas above are generally around 72nd Street in Mid-Park, so you could enter from either the East or West sides) but if you%26#39;re OK with walking, it%26#39;s a nice stroll up Fifth Avenue and into the Park.
If you are really interested in Central Park, explore:

And pick up the Barnes and Noble Guide to Central Park. It is an excellent resource.
Thank you for all of your help! I am wondering if we should just eat at the Boathouse instead of Serendipity. What is your opinion on this? From what I understand, Serendipity will probably be packed on Saturday. Thanks for your help once again!
I%26#39;ve actually never eaten at Serendipity, so I can%26#39;t compare the two.
The Boathouse will also be packed on Saturday, but it would probably be a shorter wait than Serendipity.
