Is New York ';that'; freezing during holiday season?

Hello, I麓ve read a lot of postings saying that it could be freezing for Christmas, could anyone tell me if usually it is so cold that you can hardly walk around the streets with your kids for several hours?

Can you tell me what kind of shoes shall you wear (maybe boots over socks) to be warm?

Maybe those are silly questions but Its my first time to NYC

Thank you in advanced for your responses.

I%26#39;ve been there over the holiday season twice. It%26#39;s nothing too severe at all. You%26#39;re always moving, and you probably won%26#39;t be outside for a long time anyways. Just be mindful to wear a scarf, gloves, and something over your ears and you%26#39;ll be good to go. You might want to pack long underwear for the little ones too.

This is a tough one because it can be on the milder side and it can get very cold. The main problem is footwear, especially if it has rained or snowed and there are puddles on the streets - wet feet = no fun, so be prepared. As stated, gloves, hats %26amp; scarves are necessary, but dressing in layers is most important, because even if it is cold outside, inside most places can be hot, so you will need to remove layers.

I always say that for people used to warm climates all year round, what is moderate to us is freezing to them - it is relative.

Barring an unusual cold snap, you will be fine.

I have ';winter shoes'; that are a half size bigger than my normal shoes...I then wear 2 (thin) pairs of socks - not only do the 2 layers insulate better, but they prevent chafing/blisters.

I hate hats but I wear a knit headband over my ears, and then if it%26#39;s REALLY cold I wrap my scarf around my head, too.

I%26#39;m a wimp in cold weather.

In a word, YES!

You can freeze your arse off and to me, going to New York in the winter is over rated. However, it can still be fun and I still encourage tourism at Christmas anyhow.

There are days when it%26#39;s not bad and most likley, if you do visit the city during the Holidays, it won%26#39;t be that bad. However, there can be some days where the cold is just unbearable. It can be a gamble. Hopefully, those sever cold days won%26#39;t happen when you arrive. Dress warm though just in case.

not that cold maybe 40 or 35 if sun is out its ok kids go all the time

amaral: considering you are from Mexico, I would say that you will probably ocnsider it very cold here. Even if other folks (and myself) say it%26#39;s not so bad, it will probably be bad for you.

Better to be safe than sorry, so pack some good sweaters, gloves and hats.

As long as you%26#39;re dressed properly, you can walk around the whole town all day! Don%26#39;t forget the sunglasses!
